This is Warner's second signing in a T20 League following the ball-tampering episode in South Africa in March, which resulted in him - along with Steven Smith and Cameron Bancroft - getting penalised with a 12-month suspension by Cricket Australia.

An onlooker told Daily Mail Australia Warner scored around 130 runs and batted for the entire session with up to multiple sixes to his name.

The 31-year-old left-hander will turn out for St Lucia stars and replace fellow Australian D'Arcy Short who has been selected for the country's A-side's tour of India in August and September.

"We are excited to bring David to the St Lucia Stars", he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. "David is arguably one of the greatest batsman of the modern era and a winning player", the Stars' general manager Mohammad Khan said in a statement.

Warner has played in T20 tournaments around the world including the IPL and the Aussie Big Bash, but this will be his first appearance in the CPL.

The duo's suspension is limited to representing Australia and domestic competitions within the country, they are free to participate in domestic competitions outside the control of Cricket Australia (CA).

However, Warner will now mark a return to the game when he turns out for the Winnipeg Hawks in the inaugural Global T20 tournament in Canada, ESPNcricinfo reported. He further added his expectations of Warner adding value to the dressing room and on the field as well.

The month-long CPL will also feature other Australians like all-rounder Shane Watson and Chris Lynn.
