The next Trump-Kim summit could be in New York City

North Korea Has Increased Production of Fuel for Nuclear Weapons Report

The Washington Post reported on Saturday that U.S. intelligence officials have concluded that North Korea does not intend to fully give up its nuclear arsenal and is considering ways to hide the number of weapons it has.

Kim is the United States ambassador to the Philippines and has been one of the key U.S. officials dealing with the North Koreans leading up to the Trump-Kim summit.

North Korea's only official nuclear enrichment site at Yongbyon is being upgraded.

The meeting appears to be the first face-to-face contact between USA officials and their North Korean counterparts since President Trump met with leader Kim Jong Un on June 12 in Singapore.

Immediately following the summit, Trump was quick to claim there was "no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea".

And as for a timeframe, while National Security Adviser John Bolton says it will happen within a year, Pompeo says that timeline is closer to two-and-a-half years, reports CBS News correspondent Paula Reid.

Even if North Korea is willing to cooperate, dismantling its secretive weapons of mass destruction programs, believed to encompass dozens of sites, will be tough.

"Well, we're going to be verifying, and we're going to be working with them", Trump told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos in an interview immediately following the summit.

USA intelligence officials, citing newly obtained evidence, have concluded that North Korea does not intend to fully surrender its nuclear stockpile, and instead is considering ways to hide the number of weapons it has and secret production facilities.

Little sign of compromise in German govt showdown
That would be extremely hard , as both parties have "very different ideas on migration policy" to the CDU and SPD. Nadine Schmidt reported from Berlin and Judith Vonberg wrote in London.

Details were scant, but Bolton said it would see North Korea's nuclear, biological, and chemical arsenals totally wiped out, along with its entire ballistic missile program.

While Pyongyang has stopped missile and nuclear weapons tests, "there's no evidence that they are decreasing stockpiles or that they have stopped their production", a United States official told NBC News. "We're well aware of what the North Koreans have done in the past".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a Senate briefing last week that Trump only believed the North Korean threat had been "reduced", not ended. Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience. I shook hands with him.

A senior U.S. intelligence official also said last week that Pyongyang was continuing to "deceive us on the number of facilities, the number of weapons, the number of missiles". And by the way I really believe North Korea has a tremendous future.

"I think it would be inappropriate and, frankly, counterproductive to achieving the end state that we're hoping to achieve", Pompeo said.

It's to North Korea's advantage to see these programmes dismantled very quickly, because then the elimination of sanctions, aid by South Korea and Japan and others can all begin to flow.

At last month's summit with Trump in Singapore, Kim agreed to "work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula", but offered little in the way of specifics.

"We could start with North Korea continuing to develop nuclear weapons and long-range missile technology that, yes, could kill all of us while we were sleeping at night with a nuclear weapon, we had that Wall Street journal and others reporting that yesterday", said Scarborough.
