Calls to eliminate ICE have popped up before, but after a spike in family separations at the border by other government agencies, the calls seem to be more mainstream.

Democratic Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), have called for the abolition of ICE. Pence specifically called out Democrats such as Sen.

Vice President Pence on Friday admonished Democrats who have called for dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement during a visit to the agency's headquarters, where he told employees that he considers them "patriots" and "heroes".

Citing calls for ICE to be abolished from Sen. "So we believe that we should protect families that need our help and that is not what ICE is doing today", Gillibrand said in an interview with CNN in late June.

The dispute over the federal agency has emerged as a political fault line after the Trump administration began separating migrant children from their parents after they crossed the U.S. -Mexico border, leading to nationwide protests last weekend.

Pence said the calls for ICE to be abolished were "irresponsible" and said the Trump administration is with the agency "100%". A Reuters/Ipsos poll released this week found that immigration was the top concern for voters ahead of the midterms.

As she stated in a campaign ad that went viral, " Women like me aren't supposed to run for office ". Crowley , the son of an Irish immigrant, and enraged by President Trump's immigration policies.

He also questioned if Democrats opposition to the agency will hurt them in November.

On an average day, ICE removes 645 undocumented immigrants from the country, blocks over 3,000 malware attacks, seizes $1.4 million in illegal currency and assets, and confiscates almost 3,000 lbs. of illegal drugs. "Just when we thought the Democrats couldn't get any more reckless, leading members of that party, and many of its candidates for higher office", are calling to abolish ICE, Pence said. "I can think of no better description than to call ICE a terrorist organization, and I will wear any criticism from Mike Pence as a badge of honor".

"We're not abandoning ICE and we're not abandoning our law enforcement", Trump said at a dinner in West Virginia on Tuesday.

Moreover, research shows the Trump administration's frequent association between immigration and crime is hyperbolic.
