Tropical Storm Beryl picks up speed, expected to bring wind and rain to Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands

Tropical Storm Chris continues to spin just off the North Carolina coast and is now centered roughly 150 miles to the south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

The storm is expected to generate high surf and unsafe rip currents from North Carolina to ME, according to The Weather Channel.

The National Weather Service is warning about rip current risks from the Delaware-Maryland border southward to the central SC coast.

As of 5 p.m. EDT, Chris had winds of 70 mph and was located about 215 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

The storm was expected to carry between six to 12 inches rain across the Lesser Antilles region, where the islands are still rebuilding from last year's devastating hurricane season. Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello, who declared a state of emergency on Friday, said the island could experience power outages with the fragile state of the island's grid, and urged people without sturdy roofs to move in with relatives or a government shelter.

In the Caribbean, a tropical storm watch was up for Dominica and long lines were reported at grocery stores on several islands as people shopped for food and water.

Forecasters said Beryl probably would dissipate once it moved south of Haiti and the Dominican Republic on Tuesday or Wednesday.

NBA Owner's Daughter Rips DeMarcus Cousins For Joining Golden State Warriors
Pachulia and Bell, however, used 17 and 14 percent of possessions for Golden State, respectively, last season. Yet how much Cousins helps will depend on how well he adapts his game to fit in with the Warriors offense.

The National Weather Service issued an alert warning that heavy showers and winds of more than 50 miles per hour (80 kph) were approaching Puerto Rico's east coast Monday morning.

There was high threat of unsafe rip currents north of Cape Lookout, according to the National Weather Service's Newport/Morehead City office. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued an advisory saying the storm was expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Monday night.

Beryl had been the Atlantic season's first hurricane, but it weakened to a tropical storm as it approached the eastern Caribbean.

A flash flood watch will be in effect for Monday.

Tropical Storm Chris continues to meander off the North Carolina coast.

"Hazardous sea conditions with significant wave heights of up to 2.4 to three metres or eight to 10 feet can be expected".

The hurricane center said there's a medium chance - 40 percent over the next five days - that Beryl could regenerate, this time near the Bahamas.
