One of the judges on Trump's shortlist, Amy Coney Barrett, serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit in Donnelly's home state of in - a factor that could make the lawmaker more likely to vote in favor should Barrett be the nominee.

In his dissent for Seven-Sky v. Holder, Kavanaugh detailed how he views the role federal courts should play, one that includes no oversight over Congress's taxation powers. "Maybe a handful of Democrats will vote for a Trump pick because they have to politically".

On abortion, Kavanaugh voted in October to delay an abortion for a teenage immigrant who was in government custody. I think they'd be fine justices of the Supreme Court. Besides McGahn, he has the support of some Republicans who admire his record as a lawyer working with independent counsel Ken Starr in the investigation of President Bill Clinton and later in the George W. Bush White House as well as his conservative record as a judge.

As aides prepared for a prime time announcement Monday, Trump tweeted: "I have long heard that the most important decision a U.S. President can make is the selection of a Supreme Court Justice - Will be announced tonight at 9:00 P.M".

Top contenders had included federal appeals judges Raymond Kethledge, Amy Coney Barrett and Thomas Hardiman, as well as Kavanaugh, who is now a federal appellate judge in the District of Columbia.

I look forward to making an announcement soon so that we can further strengthen and protect liberty and justice for all. And, you know, the concern would be that something could pop up going through all those papers that could make him a tougher pick. Bush had two vacancies on the Supreme Court to fill in quick succession, and fewer than half of Americans overall had much of an opinion on whether his two nominees - John Roberts and Samuel Alito - should be confirmed.

Democrats and progressive groups are instead hoping to put pressure on two moderate Republicans, Sens.

England Wins on Penalties
After over 90 minutes of domination and a quarter-final looking all but sealed, they had to bag an equalizer. The Swiss have only lost one match in the past two years, with 15 wins and four draws during that stretch.

Signaling the fight ahead on abortion rights, Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement: "There's no way to sugarcoat it: With this nomination, the constitutional right to access safe, legal abortion in this country is on the line".

Barrett - a longtime Notre Dame Law School professor who became a federal judge last fall - excited social conservatives since she was questioned about her Roman Catholic faith in her nomination hearings a year ago, but her brief time on the bench has raised questions about her experience. He said in a statement, "The justices of the Supreme Court should be selected based on the wisdom, experience and values they bring to the job, not hand-picked by ideological organizations committed to rolling back the ability of women, minorities, workers and consumers to participate fully and freely in society".

It also plans to run ads next week in Manchin's, Donnelly's and Heitkamp's home states with a softer tone, asking them to continue protecting people with pre-existing health conditions by opposing a nominee who'd threaten that. Getting a nominee through takes time.

Many conservatives are disappointed that President Donald Trump did not nominate Amy Coney Barrett or Sen.

And Murkowski said she is not certain that Kavanaugh is "committed to overturning Roe v. Wade". She rocketed to the top of Trump's earlier list of 25 Supreme Court candidates after her performance during her confirmation hearing last fall, when Democrats cited her deep Catholic faith as a potential problem.

Kyl, a former member of Republican leadership, served on the Senate Judiciary Committee before retiring in 2013.
