Anderson's win over John Isner lasted 6 ½ hours and went to 26-24 in the fifth set.

Following his defeat Friday, Isner said the time was "overdue" to institute fifth-set tiebreaks - for the good of players, fans and broadcasters alike. Anderson has won an ATP title in NY under Stine and now reached his second Grand Slam final following last year's US Open final appearance.

Djokovic, the 2011, 2014 and 2015 champion, will face Kevin Anderson, the first South African in the final in 97 years, for the title after a 5-hour 15-minute marathon.

At stake is a place in Sunday's men's final against the man who was partly at fault for keeping Nadal and Djokovic out there so late.

The match will resume Saturday. "He's been gone for two years and needed that match to make this year important". For us to be out there for that length of time. Even Anderson said he could feel during his match that the crowd would rather be watching the next one. If we're going to stick with five we have to have a tiebreak.

The quality on display was spectacular and towards the climax ridiculous as the two heavyweight combatants elevated their games to insane levels.

If they're still wobbling this afternoon, the eighth seed probably stands no chance of claiming his first grand slam title, even though Djokovic must be drained after taking two days to beat Nadal 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9), 3-6, 10-8.

"I agree with Kevin".

He and Isner suggested one possible compromise: a tiebreaker at 12-all. "I really didn't know too much about college tennis when I was in South Africa", Anderson told ESPN.com.

The system could degenerate into an open trough by the time it reaches the central Caribbean Sea and Hispaniola on Tuesday. Elsewhere across the northern Leeward and southern Windward Islands, rainfall amounts of 2 inches or less are expected.

Isner finished the tournament with a record 221 aces.

Djokovic's path to victory was thrown a curveball as Nadal served his way back to 5-5 in the fifth, but a handful of unforced errors from the clay court king handed momentum back to the Serbian star to race through his service game and take the score to 6-5. My left heel is killing me. "I've felt better before", said Isner who had also been hoping to be the first American man in a Slam final since Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009.

"I'm a proponent of changing that rule, for sure".

"That's no consolation to me. I don't know", Isner said.

LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 14: Novak Djokovic of Serbia shakes hands with Rafael Nadal of Spain (R) after their Men's Singles semi-final match on day twelve of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on July 14, 2018 in London, England. If you have access to BBC, the match will also be broadcast on BBC1 starting at 9 a.m. E.T., and then switching to BBC2 at 10:55 a.m. E.T. due to the World Cup game.

The 31-year-old is eyeing a 13th major after making the semi-finals of a Slam for the first time since finishing runner-up at the 2016 US Open. Anderson, who had crushed a similar unbroken record against Federer, expertly tackled a body serve and sent it back as a backhand victor.

Nadal faced a break point at 4-3 behind but roared away from trouble with a powerful first serve followed by two vicious, whipped forehand winners.

It certainly seems like he's back to peak form right now.
