In July 2011, Siraj Raisani lost his 14-year-old son in a terrorist attack in Mastung, in which several others, including security personnel, were killed. Raisani, who was a candidate from PB-35 (Mastung), was among those killed in the attack.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, a bombing in southwestern Baluchistan killed at least 70 people at a rally for a candidate running for the state legislature. "Official figures only include those who succumbed to their injuries on their way to hospitals or during their treatment at different health facilities", said Baloch, adding that all those who died on the spot were taken by their families directly.

Earlier in the day, a suspected suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden motorbike into a vehicle minutes after the end of an election rally in the remote Bannu district, bordering the restive North Waziristan tribal region, killing five people and injuring another 30. Caretaker Home Minister Agha Umar Bungalzai told The Associated Press another 120 people were injured in the bombing.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack in North Waziristan.

"In order to get rid of these remnants of terror, there is a need of cohesion between the government, the security agencies and also the political parties", said Ali Zafar, minister of information for the caretaker government put into place after Sharif was stripped of his role as prime minister past year.

Raisani's funeral, held yesterday, was attended by Marri, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Lt Gen Asim Bajwa, Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan Maj Gen Nadeem Anjum, provincial ministers, the chief secretary and other top officials.

Haroon Bilour, a senior secular politician and candidate for a provincial assembly seat, was among those killed in Tuesday's bombing.

A local candidate was among the dead in the Mastung town, police say. "Injured people were crying in pain and fear", journalist Attah Ullah said, from the scene of the larger attack.

But it comes amid accusations from Mr Sharif that his long-time enemies in the military establishment are undermining his Pakistan Muslim League's (PML-N) campaign in favour of Mr Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf party.

The blast targeted a convoy transporting former Housing and Works Minister Akram Khan Durrani, who escaped unharmed, local police chief Khurram Rashid said.

Mohamed Zahid, an official at the airport, said officials from Pakistan's anti-graft body are present at the airport to arrest Sharif and his daughter who were convicted and sentenced in absentia to ten and seven years, respectively, in a corruption case.

Durrani is running in the July 25 vote against popular former lawmaker Imran Khan.

In a tweet, he said there seems to be a conspiracy to sabotage the vote. But he said the people of Pakistan will not allow anything to prevent "historic" elections from taking place.
