Serena Williams Upset in Wimbledon Final

There was to be no fairytale ending as Serena Williams sought to win a 23rd Grand Slam title just 10 months after suffering life-threatening complications from giving birth to her first child.

Husband, and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, took to Instagram following the loss to highlight just what Williams has been through over the past year, undergoing serious surgery following the birth of daughter Alexis Olympia.

Djokovic will face Kevin Anderson in the final tonight.

'It would be the most hard Slam for her to win but how many really good clay-court players are there at the top of women's tennis? And Williams with his head held high went on another half court to congratulate the victor. But sandwiched between those two victories, was a defeat at the All England Club.

She affixed the badge to her white T-shirt and laughed as she proudly played with it at the start of her news conference. Kerber's motivation was very high on Saturday in the final. The 30-year-old said winning Wimbledon was her first tennis dream. "But to all the moms out there you know I was playing for you today and I tried", she says, fighting back tears. The 25th seed also played into the German's hands hitting the net and making several unforced errors.

In the end those sparks from her came very few and far in between, meaning it was a rather comfortable victory for the soon to be World No. 4.

- India have now played eight three-match T20I series, winning all eight. But India's strength in depth meant the runs just kept coming.

After her semifinal win earlier this week, Williams recalled how walking to the mailbox was a challenge for her nine months ago.

Angelique Kerber won her first championship at the All England Club beating Serena Williams 6-3, 6-3.

Williams had been chasing a record-equalling 24th grand slam singles success and was close to tears at the end, saying on court: "It was such an wonderful tournament for me". I have not much more inside me. I just feel like to tell all the mums, like I had such a long struggle to come back and it was really hard, and honestly I feel like if I can do it, they can do it.

Because Williams' comeback has been an achievement in itself, two-time champion Petra Kvitova congratulated both players.

"So I think these two weeks have really showed me that, okay, I can compete". She continued: "I have so much to look forward to". "It's obviously disappointing but I am just getting started", said an emotional W illiams after losing in the Wimbledon final for the first time since 2008. "In 2016, everything started, I won my first Grand Slam", Kerber said. "I look forward to just continuing to be back out here and do what I do best".
