President Donald Trump answers questions about the 2016 U.S Election collusion during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin after their summit

"I put more trust, always, in our intelligence agencies over Putin". Russian Federation "remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals", Ryan said.

"He's a well-qualified person, he knows the material, he listens and takes in arguments", Putin told Channel One state-controlled television in an interview given after their joint press conference.

Trump's appearance with Russian President Vladimir Putin has drawn broad condemnation from Democratic and Republicans alike.

At their meeting in Helsinki on Monday, Trump failed to challenge Putin over the 2016 presidential election, seeming to accept at face value the strongman's denial that Moscow interfered in a bid to undermine Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Why did Trump take Putin's side?

The remarks came as President Donald Trump continues to face blowback over his supplicatory press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The president has since backtracked on his remarks during the press conference with Putin, telling reporters on Tuesday that he misspoke and insisting that he fully accepts the US intelligence community's conclusions regarding Russian interference efforts.

Xiaomi fails to impress on its Hong Kong debut
Xiaomi's shares dipped in early trading, hitting HK$16 in mid-morning trade, down almost 6% from the HK$17 they had been sold at. At opening, each Xiaomi share was valued at 16.60 Hong Kong dollars ($2.12), below the initial offering price of HK$17 ($2.17).

Trump also appeared to embrace Putin's offer to have Russian investigators work together with U.S. prosecutors on the case of the 12 just indicted.

Coats, a former IN senator, said his team has "been clear IN our assessments of Russian meddling" after Trump said he takes Putin at his "strong" words denying attempts to interfere IN the 2016 election. Putin also denied to Wallace that his government has "compromising material" on Trump. -Russian relations were at a historic low point just prior to his meeting with Putin, he is now hopeful for cooperative relations going forward.

Republican politicians in the United States have joined the Democrats and intelligence officials in denouncing President Donald Trump's failure to challenge Russian President Vladimir Putin over interference in the U.S. elections, calling his response as "shameful" and "disgraceful".

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted after his news conference with Putin found that 55 percent of registered USA voters disapproved of his handling of relations with Russian Federation, while 37 percent approved.

"We are starting to achieve some understanding which gives us sufficient ground to say that some things - a lot of things changed to the better during today's meeting", he said.

On Monday, the top two Democrats in Congress suggested that Trump's performance during the joint news conference was a sign that Russian Federation does indeed have damaging information on the United States leader.

During the interview on Fox News, Putin also invoked the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. when he was asked about the deaths of his own political opponents.
