Trump says he has 'full faith' in United States intelligence after Putin summit

Trump says he misspoke on Russia election meddling

He dismissed it all with a new attack on an old target: the news media.

Trump took to Twitter to call his summit with Putin in Helsinki "even better" than his meeting with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies in Brussels last week.

He sided with Putin when asked whether he would condemn Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. He had also derided the criticism as "fake news".

During a remarkable 46-minute joint news conference at the end of Monday's summit, Trump would not challenge Russian leader Putin's claim that his government played no role in trying to sabotage the USA election, despite the Justice Department's indictments Friday of 12 Russian intelligence officers.

He accused the president of being "wholly in the pocket of Putin" and the presser 'rises to & exceeds the threshold of 'high crimes & misdemeanors'. Not only were Trump's comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, have defended Mr. Trump.

Back at the White House on Tuesday, the president told reporters that he said he meant he doesn't see why Russian Federation "wouldn't" be responsible.

The White House meeting was originally closed to the press, but White House press secretary Sarah Sanders later said the first portion of the meeting would be open. His words came a day after he sided with Putin in an extraordinary press conference. "Just as he's making the mistake of mixing the two together, so the public says, 'Well, if he's denying this, he's denying everything'". He said Special Counsel Robert Mueller should be allowed to finish his investigation. "Vladimir Putin does not share our values", said Ryan.

Writer removed from summit event says he only had a question
When finally asked what he thought of Trump's behavior with Putin, Emanuel spent more than 3½ minutes giving his thoughts. By Tuesday afternoon when he faced the cameras, Trump had changed tack.

"My people came to me - Dan Coats came to me and some others - they said they think it's Russian Federation".

During the press conference, Putin denied Russia had meddled in the USA election, but admitted: "I wanted him to win because he talked about normalising Russian-American relations".

Trump added that he has "full faith and support for America's great intelligence agencies".

"President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today", he added, in what appeared to be a rejection of the conclusions reached by United States intelligence agencies. I think that's an incredible offer, ' Trump said.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who served during the Obama administration, said it was 'truly unbelievable'. "If he wanted to make those comments, he should have had the strength to make them in front of Vladimir Putin".

"It was a really bad day for the president", Adam Kinzinger, said Tuesday morning on CNN. But he said there is broad understanding in both parties about the threat posed by Russian Federation and warned of more sanctions if the Kremlin attempts to meddle in any future election, including the midterms coming up in November.

The president said he accepts USA intelligence analysis that Russian Federation did in fact interfere in the 2016 presidential election through propaganda, while stating there was no collusion between the Kremlin and his campaign.
