With regard to rumors that Russian Federation has asked Iran to leave Syria, he said "Iran is not a [small] country you can force it out".

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who chaired the meeting, announced that Iran and the remaining parties to the nuclear agreement had agreed to continue negotiations, including on economic measures, over how to save the deal. Meanwhile, several human rights groups have charged both countries with participating in war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria, the Algemeiner reported July 18. In May, Israel said it attacked almost all of Iran's military infrastructure after Iranian forces fired rockets at Israeli-held territory for the first time in the most extensive military exchange ever between the two adversaries.

An official Syrian Army source said the Israeli aggression was carried out "to cover up for the defeat of its proxies in Daraa and Qunietra provinces".

Netanyahu's remarks came hours before a meeting with top Russian officials on Iran and the situation in Syria, where Moscow-backed regime forces have been battering rebels in the south for more than a month.

On July 17, US President Donald Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers that the US, Russia and Israel had launched trilateral talks regarding the Syria issue and Israel's security.

He noted Iran believes it is very important to keep pursuing a political solution to the Syria crisis while boosting the trend of intra-Syrian talks, and supports efforts made in that regard.

Lavrentiev stressed that the determination and will of the Russian government have not been affected whatsoever, on continuing political, security cooperation between Tehran and Moscow on Syria.
