"This is a historic election".

Khan said he wanted "mutually beneficial" relations with the USA and peace in Afghanistan, and that leaders of India and Pakistan should talk to resolve Kashmir dispute. This has also affected the traditional election fervour.

"I want to follow the concept of the state of Madinah, which was the first welfare state in the history". There is extreme violation of human rights in the Occupied Kashmir.

In a speech peppered with populist pledges, Khan promised to create jobs for the poor and announced he would turn the palatial prime minister's official residence in the capital into an education facility instead of living in it. I would be ashamed to live in such a lavish house. On that front, he underscored the importance of trade ties with India.

He said that Pakistan would do its best to restore peace in neighboring Afghanistan. "I would love an open border system like the European Union with Afghanistan", he added.

"The biggest dispute between us is about Kashmir".

"Pakistan is ready to normalize ties with India".

About America, he said his government would look for a balanced relationship with its former ally in so-called war against terrorism.

"The second thing we can learn from China is how they curbed corruption and set the example that corruption does not pay", he added. "We have to cope with this all", he added.

"Accountability will start with me, then my ministers, and then we will work our way down", Khan said. In the run-up to the election, the country was hit by a series of terror attacks on candidates and campaign rallies, including one that killed 151 persons in Balochistan province on July 13. Most of the revelers were young men, who danced to the sound of beating drums draped in Tehreek-e-Insaf party black and green-colored flags.

The leads, however, put Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) ahead of the rest, including Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Jailed former premier Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) trailed with 61 seats and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led in 40, with the other rest split among smaller parties.

Sharif, who was immediately placed in custody after returning from Britain almost two weeks ago, has denounced the verdict as politically motivated and accused a covert military-judiciary alliance of trying to keep him out of politics and undermining the integrity of his PML-N party.

Any government will also compete for influence over foreign policy with Pakistan's powerful military, which has ruled for much of the nation's history and faced accusations of meddling in the campaign - allegations it denied.

Former President and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari also won from Sindh province.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) secretary Babar Yaqoob said told reporters early on Thursday counting had been delayed by technical failures in an electronic reporting system and the tallying was now being conducted manually.

"These elections were 100 percent transparent and fair".

Out of the 272 seats of the 342-member National Assembly, the lower house of the country's parliament, elections took place on 270 seats as polls were postponed on two seats due to multiple reasons, including the death of a candidate.

Pakistan's mainstream political parties have rejected the elections results terming the Wednesday's polls "rigged". Politics could not have given me anything. "This is not election but selection", Shehbaz said. We are not being provided certified results by the election commission.

"I want to warn that this type of actions will be detrimental for the national integrity and the democracy", he maintained.

The size of Khan's lead against the PML-N, when many analysts had predicted a coalition would be likely, was also increasing concern over the process, analysts said. "The people of Pakistan will not accept that", Hussain charged without naming the PTI.

All major parties, excluding the PTI, have already rejected the result - whenever it comes in.

The PML-N is one of the several breakaway groups of Pakistan's founding party established in 1906 before partition.

The MMA chief said he was going to call an all parties conference to devise a joint strategy against alleged rigging.
