Here's what David Epstein is saying about Hurricane Florence

The governors of North and SC and Virginia have already declared states of emergency, but winds and flooding caused by Florence could do serious damage even if it remains offshore.

Forecasters at the NHC said Florence would continue to strengthen and "is expected to remain an extremely risky major hurricane through Thursday".

Isaac will make its way over the Lesser Antilles by Thursday morning and is expected to weaken to a tropical storm south of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola over the weekend.

By 11 p.m. Sunday, Florence was moving across the Atlantic Ocean at about 7 miles per hour, and it was almost a Category 2 hurricane, with peak winds of 90 miles per hour.

The latest projection for the path of the storm, released Sunday, shows the storm track centered on Wilmington, N.C., with forecasters predicting it will be a "dangerous major hurricane" by the time it reaches the coast later in the week.

Hurricane Florence appears to be taking aim at the largest U.S. Marine Corps base on the East Coast.

Forecasters say that storm was about 1230 miles (1985 kilometers) east of the Windward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kmh).

Last week, Hurricane Florence became the first Category 4 hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season. It did not immediately pose a threat to land.

"Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles". Florence "is expected to remain an extremely risky major hurricane through Thursday", the NHC said in a statement.

Perez's aunt said her nephew held various jobs and was now working, though his aunt and her family did not know where. Jaenetta Cook, who manages a bakery on the first floor, said she hurried to lock the door after the first two shots.

All government services will remain in operation today as Hurricane Florence passes to the south of the island.

The storms are two of three hurricanes now spinning in the Atlantic.

The storm is expected to approach the south-east United States coast on Thursday.

Florence became a Category 1 hurricane earlier on Sunday.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division tweeted Sunday that officials there are "preparing for the possibility of a large-scale disaster".

September 10 is the peak of hurricane season.

"Isaac is a small hurricane and uncertainty in the forecast is higher than normal", the National Hurricane Center said.

The latest minimum central pressure reported by a NOAA Hurricane Hunter Aircraft is 984 mb (29.06 inches). The advice has been that anyone living along the coast of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia should be monitoring the forecast.
