Lloris pleaded guilty yesterday to drink driving

France's World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris avoided jail but received a 20-month driving ban and a £50,000 ($65,000) fine on Wednesday for drink-driving in central London. He said he was guilty and responsible.

"He's punishing himself. He feels so sorry and so bad because he knows that he made a big mistake".

"He's the first [to accept it was a mistake], he told me, "Gaffer, it's a massive lesson for me".

The Magistrate who sentenced the 31-year-old said that not only had he put his own life at risk, but "that of your passenger".

Pochettino has expressed his relief that there were no serious consequences of Lloris's drink-driving offence for anyone else who encountered the Tottenham captain more than twice over the legal alcohol limit in London last month.

The Spurs boss said yesterday the France World Cup victor will remain as club captain despite his conviction this week and even though Lloris admitted he would understand if it was taken from him.

Highlights from the final day at the US Open as Djokovic triumphs
Never was that more apparent than the game that stood out on this evening, with Djokovic serving while down 4-3 in the second set. He showed off all of his court-covering, foe-frustrating, defense-to-offense skills down the stretch on the way to his third U.S.

He is now out of action with a thigh injury sustained during his side's victory at Manchester United.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will be breathing a huge sigh of relief as Dele Alli is expected to be fit for the upcoming high-profile clash. Tottenham will also be without Dele Alli after he picked up a hamstring injury on global duty.

At least Son Heung-min is available again after helping South Korea win the Asian Games, which means he will be excused military service.

Pochettino said: "Look, when in England the transfer window closed and in Europe closed I think we move on".

The coach added: 'We have confidence and trust in him. I am not disappointed with him. "I'm happy because the circumstances of the summer were so different from another season".
