Tesla’s Elon Musk has picked Maezawa 42 founder and CEO of Japan’s largest e-commerce company Start Today Co to fly on SpaceX

Until now, Americans are the only ones who have left Earth's orbit. The big news this week was the unveiling of the SpaceX BFR (Big Falcon Rocket) spacecraft that can fly to the moon and beyond.

A second tweet reminded readers that "only 24 humans have been to the Moon in history".

The era of space tourism began in 2001, when California businessman Dennis Tito paid for a journey on a Russian rocket to the International Space Station. "There's some chance something could go wrong".

"Why do I want to go to the moon", Maezawa continued.

Musk described Maezawa as incredibly fearless and said his desire to participate in and pay for this trip restored Musk's faith in humanity.

"As far as me going, I'm not sure", Musk responded. "I don't know", Musk said.

The event is schedule for 9pm ET, and SpaceX usually does a great job with its live streams so we can expect plenty of commentary and context both before and after the formal announcement.

Still, when asked by reporters if Musk would be a passenger, he left the door open to the possibility. SpaceX announced last month that its first crewed Dragon mission aims to take two NASA astronauts to the ISS in April 2019.

NASA plans to launch astronauts on a trip into an orbit beyond the moon during the second flight of the agency's new Space Launch System rocket in the 2022 timeframe, almost 55 years after Apollo 8.

Bill Pascrell of New Jersey to repeal the cap on federal deductions for state and local taxes that came in the new tax law. A committee-level vote is being planned by the House tax committee Chairman Kevin Brady on Thursday, Sept. 13.

This isn't the first time Musk has vowed to send tourists around the Moon.

The new strategy is to still fly around the moon, but using an even bigger SpaceX rocket still in development that has its own dedicated passenger ship.

The week-long Moon mission is scheduled for 2023, with tests kicking off within the "two to three years", the newspaper reports.

Musk estimated it would cost $5 billion to build.

CEO Elon Musk will likely name the individual that SpaceX says will be the 25th person to swing around the backside of the moon and the first since America's Apollo missions ended in 1972.

Branson's Virgin Galactic has sold tickets for about $250,000, which is more than the median home price in the United States.

He recently criticized analysts during a Tesla earnings conference call, labeled a British diver in the recent Thai cave rescue drama as a pedophile, took a hit off an apparent marijuana-tobacco joint during a podcast interview, and tweeted that he had funding to take Tesla private but then announced the deal was off.

The ship will launch from Kennedy Space Center, in Florida, atop a huge white booster named the Big Falcon Rocket, or BFR.
