In a message on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his condolences over the terrorist attack on a military parade in Ahvaz earlier in the day which killed at least 25 people and injured more than 60 others.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the terrorist attack in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz was the continuation of plots hatched by United States stooges in the region to create insecurity in the country, adding that Iran's intelligence services must swiftly find the accomplices of the "criminals" behind the attack and put them on trial.

Al-Ahvazieh, an Iranian Arab-affiliated group, has claimed responsibility for the terror attack, saying it is fighting for the rights of the Iranian Arabs in Khuzestan.

A video distributed to Iranian media showed soldiers crawling to escape gunfire.

A video on state television's website showed confused soldiers.

Where did they come from? The Guards also play a major role in Iran's regional interests in countries such as Iraq, Syria and Yemen. Another responded: "From behind us".

State television blamed "takfiri elements", a reference to Sunni Muslim militants, for the attack.

Ahvaz lies in Khuzestan, a province bordering Iraq that has a large ethnic Arab community and has seen separatist violence in the past that Iran has blamed on its regional rivals.

Armed forces spokesman Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said that the dead included a young girl and a former serviceman in a wheelchair.

South Africa’s top court legalizes personal, private cannabis use
Tuesday's ruling follows a judgment that the possession, cultivation and use of dagga for private use was allowed. But several government ministries - the justice, police, health and trade - challenged the ruling.

"Rouhani will use the terrorist attack to justify Iran's presence in the Middle East. The attack will strengthen the IRGC's position inside Iran and in the region", Tehran-based political analyst Hamid Farahvashian said.

Iran has suggested in recent weeks that it could take military action in the Gulf to block other countries' oil exports in retaliation for US sanctions meant to halt its sales of crude.

Khamenei ordered security forces to bring to justice those responsible for one of the worst assaults ever against the Revolutionary Guards, the most powerful and heavily armed military force in the country, which answers to him.

Two of the militants were killed and two others arrested.

Iran will be scrambling to determine the motives for the Saturday's high-profile attack as it faces growing USA pressure.

Trump will fail in his confrontation with Iran, just like Iraq's Saddam Hussein, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, referring to the war in the 1980s between the two Middle Eastern powers and vowing that Tehran will not abandon its missiles.

Attacks by Kurdish rebels on military patrols along the border further north are relatively common.

In a keynote speech, Rouhani vowed to boost Iran's ballistic missile capabilities despite Western concerns that were cited by his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in May when he abandoned a landmark nuclear deal with Tehran.

On June 7, 2017, 17 people were killed and dozens wounded in simultaneous attacks in Tehran on the parliament and on the tomb of revolutionary leader Ruhollah Khomeini - the first inside Iran claimed by IS.
