A Mackay Hospital spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the 12-year-old's condition had not improved and she was still critical Thursday evening.

A 12-year-old girl has been attacked by a shark at the same Queensland island where a Tasmanian mother was mauled less than 24 hours earlier.

She remains in a critical condition.

UPDATE, 2.40pm: A paramedic has reached the child who was attacked by a shark at Cid Harbour, the Queensland Ambulance Service has confirmed.

"The original first aid was actually really well done", rescue helicopter crewman Ben McCauley said.

Queensland Ambulance Services Mackay operations manager Tracey Eastwick said there was nothing to suggest at this stage that the girl would lose a limb.

Justine Barwick, from Tasmania, was bitten on the leg and flown to the same hospital, where she is also in a critical condition.

The other victim, Ms Barwick, 46, suffered severe leg and torso injuries when she was mauled by a shark in Cid Harbour as she swam with her husband and friends.

A rescue helicopter that scrambled to pick her up was just 15 minutes away from the scene due to an earlier operation.

Amazon is reportedly working on eight new Alexa-powered devices
If the new devices are made and sold by Amazon, they would be in direct competition with similar devices made by Sonos and Garmin. As an example - earlier this year, it teamed up with the home builder Lennar to add Echo speakers in some new homes.

"There was a doctor on scene, but apparently the people that she'd been with that have got her on to the boat and have packed her wounds to stop the haemorrhaging are the ones who really saved her life", she said.

THE Whitsundays are set to be covered in baited drum lines today after two shark attacks in less than 24 hours left a girl and a woman fighting for their lives in hospital.

WHEN Bobby Macdonald responded to a mayday call late yesterday afternoon, he did not expect to be faced with a shark attack.

The injured woman and two others had to be put into a dinghy and repositioned about 100 metres from the yacht because it lacked an open deck.

The Whitsunday Islands are a popular tourist destination, with tourists flocking to the region during the cooler months of the year.

"Fisheries Queensland has organised for the Queensland Shark Control Program contractor based at Mackay to deploy three shark control drumlines in the area tomorrow morning", the DAF statement said on Thursday.

Mr Krause said various types of whaler species as well as bull and tiger sharks can be found in waters around the harbour and he advised against swimming in or near Cid Harbour for the time being.

'It is important to be aware that sharks inhabit the Queensland coastline, as well as estuaries, rivers, creeks, canals and streams - both saltwater and freshwater'.
