Wendy Martinez, a 35-year-old tech executive was on her evening jog on September 18 around the streets near her Washington D.C. home when a total stranger pulled out a knife and stabbed her.

Wendy Martinez died after she was attacked while jogging in D.C.'s Logan Circle neighborhood on Tuesday.

Police have nabbed a suspect in the stabbing death of a runner in Washington D.C. and the victim's mom said she has already forgiven him for killing her daughter. A motive for the attack is still unclear.

Kristina Moore, a friend who spoke at the news conference on behalf of Martinez's family, described her as "joyful and amusing and loving and always there".

Martinez, who became engaged just last week, was stabbed a total of seven times - mostly to her upper body, including her neck and head, the papers said.

Crawford was arrested Wednesday night after being found by police officers at the park. Customers tried to save her life.

Martinez's parents, her fiancé, friends from out of state and even people who had never met her came together to remember her.

Police recovered a knife, as well as a mustard-colored sweater with what looked like blood on it, from the scene in the Logan Circle neighborhood.

The surveillance video was unveiled in the case the day before Anthony Crawford's name was released by authorities. "We don't see crimes very much like this, even during the course of my career", Newsham said.

The suspect does have a criminal background, however police said there is no indication of any violence in his criminal past. "I'm sure that doesn't bring any level of comfort to the Martinez family".

She stumbled, bloody, into a local restaurant before being taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities are desperately searching for the suspected attacker, last seen in blurry CCTV footage wearing a mustard-coloured shirt, dark-coloured trousers and sandals with white socks.

He also said that such incidents "sometimes happen in large cities", WTOP reported.

Martinez, chief of staff at government affairs company FiscalNote, was an avid runner who regularly spent her evenings jogging around the city. "This is a woman who should be going to work today". Her family described her as an avid runner. "Thankfully, there were some folks in the carryout who really went above and beyond to try and help her until police and fire could arrive on the scene, but unfortunately they couldn't do enough to save her life".
