Brett Kavanaugh Accused Of Sex Misconduct By Second Woman - New Yorker Report

Blasey Ford's Friend: No Recollection of Party

A woman who made sexual assault allegations against Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee has agreed to give evidence to the Senate.

Mr Trump's change in tone - and apparent shift in tactics - came as Christine Blasey Ford's lawyers negotiated with the Senate Judiciary Committee on the terms for her possible testimony next week in a dramatic showdown over her accusation that threatens Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.

But the lawyers say the Republican-controlled Senate panel hasn't said who will be asking questions of Ford and Kavanaugh.

Ford told the Post she went public with her claims because she felt her "civic responsibility" was "outweighing my anguish and terror about retaliation" after the basic outlines of the story emerged in the media.

Ford has said five people were at the gathering, and four of them claim not to remember it: Keyser, Smith, Kavanaugh, and his friend Mark Judge, who Ford has said was in the room when the alleged assault took place.

As the Saturday deadline approached, NBC news reported that Garrett Ventry, a communications aide on the Senate Judiciary Committee who had been helping lead the response to Ford's claim against Kavanaugh, was stepping down after evidence surfaced he was sacked from a previous job partly due to sexual harassment allegations against him.

"We've made important progress", said Ford's attorneys Debra S. Katz, Lisa J. Banks, and Michael R. Bromwich.

Her escape came only when Judge, who was in the room with them, jumped on top of the pair, she says.

Republicans viewed Ford's requests as a way to delay voting on President Donald Trump's nominee.

If Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed, he could bring a rightward shift to the Supreme Court for decades, and the battle is playing out amid a divided country. The Post reported that Ford and her husband "have looked into a security service to escort their children to school".

Cruz and O'Rourke are facing each other in a surprisingly competitive US Senate race in Texas, a Republican stronghold. The candidates will also debate on September 30 at the University of Houston and on October 16 in San Antonio.

'Brett Kavanaugh and I were friends in high school but I do not recall the party described in Dr. Ford's letter.

Maybe that is why Ford's attorneys are continuing their game of chicken with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley and refusing to agree to terms under which Ford will testify.

On Sunday all sides struck a deal to call Judge Kavanaugh back for another day of testimony, along with Ms. Blasey Ford.

Kavanaugh will testify along with Ford on Thursday morning.

The new information came hours after the Senate committee agreed to a date and time for a hearing after almost a week of uncertainty over whether Ford would appear to tell her story. With Republicans holding a 51-49 majority in the Senate, all Democrats and two Republican senators would need to oppose Kavanaugh for his nomination to fail.

The pair of Democrats accused Trump of making "misleading statements" about whether the FBI should investigate Ford's claims against Kavanaugh. "I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against Brett Kavanaugh", his lawyer wrote in a letter, which also included a ringing endorsement of Kavanaugh's nomination.

Lawyer Michael Bromwich has joined Katz's legal team. This claim is denied by all who were said to be present and is wholly inconsistent with what many women and men who knew Judge Kavanaugh at the time in college say.

"There is no legitimate basis for you to continue blocking the FBI from investigating this important matter", the lawmakers said in a letter.

Kavanaugh has strongly denied the accusation as a "completely false allegation". "That would have protected her anonymity, as Dr. Ford requested".
