Trump's SC nominee Brett Kavanaugh was frequent, heavy drinker, recalls Yale classmate

They have deliberately and consciously turned the confirmation process into a witch hunt, knowing that any allegation - no matter how freakish or unlikely - would be lovingly reported by their allies in the media.

Ford named a friend, Leland Ingham Keyser, as at the drunken high school party where Ford says Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her. Keyser has repeatedly said that she does not remember any such event and has refused to corroborate Ford's story.

Trump made his comments at the end of a news conference in the Rose Garden as concerns mount among Democrats that the White House is trying to impose strict limits on the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the week it has been given to conduct interviews.

Provided the new investigation doesn't turn up damaging information, the inquiry could ultimately make it easier for uncertain Republicans to back Kavanaugh as soon as this week. "It can't be used in a criminal case, it's an investigative tool", Flagg said.

Talk of impeachment comes after a contentious day of hearings on Capitol Hill with testimony from Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, who is accusing him of sexual assault. The full Senate was scheduled to vote Tuesday on Kavanaugh, who now sits on the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals, though that could be scuttled if a lengthier investigation is launched into the allegations against him.

Mitchell provided details to each point using Ford's own testimony, her polygraph test, and the letter she sent to Feinstein.

"However, whatever the senators want is okay with me", he said.

Dr. Ford has struggled to identify Judge Kavanaugh as the assailant by name.

In recent days I have become deeply troubled by what has been a blatant mischaracterization by Brett himself of his drinking at Yale. Charles "Chad" Ludington, who now teaches at North Carolina State University, said he was a friend of Kavanaugh's at Yale and that Kavanaugh was "a frequent drinker, and a heavy drinker". On many occasions I heard Brett slur his words and saw him staggering from alcohol consumption, not all of which was beer. He also says Kavanaugh was often belligerent and aggressive when drunk. The matter would then move on to the Senate, where the bar is set much higher and a full two-thirds of senators would have to vote "yes" to remove a Supreme Court justice.

CNN has previously reported that a source with knowledge of the investigation said the FBI would take its direction from the White House, not the Senate, and that the agency would interview a handful of people.

Trump ordered the new probe into Kavanaugh Friday at the request of the committee. "The FBI is not tasked to do that". Chief among them is the Judiciary's Committee's ranking member, Sen. "It's about how does it affect you", said Graham.

That's according to a person familiar with the probe who spoke to The Associated Press on Monday on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the background investigation process. But those Republicans have the same goal as Trump: confirming Kavanaugh. Trump's fellow Republicans control the Senate by a narrow 51-49 margin.

"Except for Mike Pence by the way", he joked, to laughter.

"She stated that she ran out of the house after coming downstairs and did not state that she made a phone call from the house before she did, or that she called anyone else thereafter", the sex prosecutor noted.

The stunning reversal capped two weeks of allegations, followed by furious denials, that roiled prospects for Trump's nominee, a conservative federal appeals court judge once expected to easily become the second Trump nominee to win a lifetime appointment to the top U.S. court.
