Cubs closer Strop on wild-card roster

The lefty-lefty pitching rematch that featured big-game Cubs starter Jon Lester against postseason rookie Kyle Freeland on short rest turned into a classic October duel.

Tony Wolters delivered the biggest hit of his career when he drove in Trevor Story with an RBI single to break a 1-1 tie in the top of the 13th inning at Wrigley Field. In what should be of no surprise to Cubs fans, Davis showed little emotion as he left the mound. To make matters worse, the dispiriting way that the Rockies fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, October 1, made a win at Wrigley Field on October 2 that much more hard to pull off.

Game 3 will be held in either Chicago or Denver, based on who wins the Wild Card game. In 14 1/3 innings of work in the 2017 playoffs, Lester allowed just three earned runs in 14 1/2 innings as he started a pair of games and appeared in relief in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Nationals at Wrigley Field.

"We didn't make it easy on ourselves, that's for sure", Story said, "but we're going to enjoy this one tonight and we're definitely not done".

Federal Bureau of Investigation probe ordered against Brett Kavanaugh
Jeff Flake told the Senate Judiciary Committee as he proposed the delay. "I know because I frequently drank to excess with him". Ford said Keyser was at the party when the assault happened but was downstairs and did not directly witness the incident.

"In 2015, we were winning the wild-card game no matter what", Rizzo said.

Lester did his part Tuesday, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings with nine strikeouts.

Gore instead faced a 3-2 count and struck out, and so did Baez and Almora, ending the game. This was really a stellar year but to think the Cubs could continue to limp deep into the playoffs, with no real closer, a healing Pedro Strop, a hesitant Kris Bryant, and two of the five starting pitchers from the beginning of the season completely out of the picture, well, it wasn't likely.
