ALDS Game 3 Highlights: Red Sox vs. Yankees | Stadium

Yankees are in uncharted waters with a surprising edge

"But you got to be thinking at first base, maybe take a little more pride in what you're doing".

"I think they both can strike, can strike big", said Hyers, who was with the Dodgers as they went to Game 7 of the World Series previous year. "I need a home run for the cycle, '" Holt said of the buildup to his final at-bat. "I was going to try to hit a home run, but I figured I'd ground out to first, be out in front of something", Holt said. "I scooted up in the box a little bit, and I was going to be swinging at anything and try to hook anything". David Price suffered the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings. That's probably the first time I've ever tried to do that.

Eovaldi's mark at Yankee Stadium is 3.38 in two starts, slightly better than his 3.70 career ERA in the Bronx, but again, that's inflated by the one start he made here with the Rays - or, if you look at the other side of the coin, not representative of the six shutout innings he pitched here on September 16. Nate Eovaldi, a former Yankees pitcher, had already thrown one of the best games of his career and shut down the greatest home run hitting team of all-time. J.D. Martinez then grounded out, but Xander Bogaerts followed up with a single to put runners on the corners and keep the Red Sox rally alive. In the eighth, facing lefty Stephen Tarpley, he hit an RBI double, putting himself a homer shy of history. That was the last straw, so Boone came out to the mound - surely to bring in a talented and experienced reliever, right? It doesn't matter how many times he sues Major League Baseball.

"It was a special moment for me", Eovaldi said.

Looking to play left-handed hitters against Severino, the first-year skipper inserted Holt at second base and Rafael Devers at third. "I don't think it's really quite settled in yet".

There were four replay challenges in the first four innings - all involving calls by first base umpire Angel Hernandez. That is the very definition of manufacturing two runs.

Guardiola tells Man City players: Blame me for Liverpool pen
Manchester City star midifelder Iklay Gundogan has sent out a warning ahead of the Citizens encounter with Liverpool this weekend. I [asked] him: "'Big one?' and he said: "'I don't think so, but big enough that I go off'".

The originally scheduled pitching matchup was Luis Severino for the Yankees and Rick Porcello for the Sox. That is just the second time in postseason history that a position player came in to pitch, after Cliff Pennington did so in the 2015 ALCS for the Blue Jays while getting blown out by the Royals.

Then there's the question of what happens if the Red Sox win game three.

The over is 8-1 in the last nine Yankees games overall.

Monday's Game 3 of the ALDS was obviously the biggest game of the Yankees season.

Should the Red Sox win Game 3, they have a former Cy Young Award victor pitching basically in his hometown (Porcello went to Seton Hall Prep) to try to advance Boston to the ALCS; if they lose, though, then they have the same former Cy Young Award victor pitching to keep them alive instead of a wild card in Eovaldi.
