3 arrested in NYC clashes following speech by leader of far-right Proud Boys group

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday questioned why state Republicans invited the founder of a far-right group to speak in Manhattan, and he blamed them and President Donald Trump for violent clashes that took place after the speech.

As the event was letting out, some of the attendees allegedly assaulted some of the so-called "Antifa" protesters.

Those officers managed to arrest three protesters, all antifa members.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information on the fights to come forward, and said it was investigating if the attacks were hate crimes.

Prior to the event on Friday, protesters threw a brick through the window of the club and spray-painted the doors with the anarchy symbol. The "Proud Boys" are a far-right men's group whose members refer to themselves as "Western chauvinists".

'It ended with 30 proud boys pummeling a guy on the ground screaming, 'ARE YOU BRAVE NOW F****t?!' he wrote.

Their victim, who was not named in reports, claimed the three men tried to steal his backpack and then began beating him when he tried to take it back from them.

"One dude started screaming, 'Do you feel fearless now f--r, '" he added.

A NYPD officer did roll up on the scene on a scooter after a period of time, and broke up the fight after Horse pleaded for the officer to do something. Police didn't immediately make clear if those in custody were affiliated with the Proud Boys or the group of protesters.

Another journalist, Sandi Bachom, took video of an assault that appears to be the same one Horse described.

This weekend saw physical altercations between protest groups in two major American cities, both Portland, Oregon and New York City.

New Yorkers have criticized the NYPD for reportedly watching the Proud Boys attack and kick protectors without taking any immediate action.

On Monday, New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro said in an interview with NY1 that the Metropolitan Republican Club should not have invited Gavin McInnes to speak at its headquarters. "Here's a message from a Queens boy to the so-called "proud boys" - NY has zero tolerance for your BS".

"Last night the Metropolitan Republican Club was vandalized by the leftist hate group Antifa, who also left a note promising "this is just the beginning' and threatening more violence", the club posted on Facebook.McInnes, who is also a co-founder of Vice Magazine, had his Twitter account suspended earlier this year, along with that of the Proud Boys".

"It is revolting to see white supremacists commit a hate crime on the streets of New York City - in full view of the NYPD - and for none of them to be arrested or prosecuted", Lancman said. "If you know anything, the NYPD wants your help". No arrests have been made in connection to the vandalism yet.
