"There is a total and complete lack of understanding at the White House about the seriousness of their continued attacks on the media", Zucker said.

Trump and "especially" Sanders, Zucker wrote, "should understand their words matter. Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that", Zucker said as the network's NY bureau was evacuated for five hours on Wednesday following the discovery of an explosive device sent there.

Sanders claimed falsely that CNN immediately leaped to blame the president for the bomb threat that forced the evacuation the network's NY offices.

Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former CIA Director John Brennan, and other prominent Democrats reportedly were sent suspicious packages.

Trump, who often sums up CNN's coverage of his administration as "fake news", addressed the discovery of the string of suspicious packages during a White House event Wednesday on opioid addiction.

An hour later she sent another tweet that said the White House's condemnation "certainly includes threats made to CNN as well as current and former public servants". "Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!" "The president is certainly not responsible for sending suspicious packages to someone, no more than [Sen.] Bernie Sanders was responsible for a supporter of his shooting up a Republican baseball field practice past year". Bernie Sanders shooting congressional Republicans at a baseball practice.

Mr. Brennan blamed the president, saying his rhetoric "fuels these feelings and sentiments that now are bleeding over into potentially acts of violence".

Sent under Lara Trump's name, the email said "it's time for us to give the media another wake-up call from the American people". "The first thing should have been to condemn the violence", Sanders added.

Feelings were raw at the cable network because of a what it believed was a reluctance by the administration to discuss CNN as one of the targets of crude devices sent to political leaders, and the delivery of a fundraising email that attacked CNN that arrived in inboxes of supporters as the story unfolded.

With two more bombs being found this morning, the country looked to the White House for a response.
