Rockets making renewed bid to acquire Jimmy Butler

Five Reasons the Miami Heat Is Better Off Without Jimmy Butler

Five Reasons the Miami Heat Is Better Off Without Jimmy Butler

The Timberwolves don't appear to be budging on the Rockets' offer for a Jimmy Butler deal.

Houston's push represents a desire to sacrifice some long-term roster flexibility and go all-in with a legitimate third star to partner with All-NBA guards James Harden and Chris Paul in pursuit of a championship. He was traded to the Timberwolves before last season.

The Rockets' offer constitutes the maximum number of first-round picks allowable in a deal, factoring in league rules that necessitate no first-rounders can be conveyed in successive years.

Wojnarowski reported earlier in the month that the T-Wolves and Miami Heat were close to a deal involving Butler, but talks fractured after Minnesota pushed for more near the completion of the deal.

Through four games this season Butler is averaging 24.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.8 steals.

Why Is Today's Lottery Jackpot So Ginormous?
Powerball will hold its drawing Wednesday night for a jackpot estimated at $620 million or a cash value of $354.3 million. As of 4 p.m., Kansans had already more than $3,000,000 on tickets with no sign of letting up, lottery officials said.

He can become a free agent at the end of the season, having turned down a contract extension from the Timberwolves over the summer.

For the Rockets to include a package with four first-round picks, they'd have to be spread out over a seven-year period, as teams are prohibited from trading their first-round picks in consecutive seasons.

The Rockets would have a strong desire to re-sign Butler in the offseason.

The other major factors working against the Rockets are time and money, as they might not have enough of either to make the trade work.

This year has started out rough as the team dropped to 1-3 after a Wednesday night defeat to the Utah Jazz. Both teams will be back in action on Friday.
