US Attorney General Jeff Sessions was sacked by Donald Trump on Wednesday after enduring more than a year of bitter criticism from the president over his decision to step aside from the Russian Federation investigation that has dogged the White House.

In a Twitter message, the medium he often uses for dismissing subordinates, Trump announced on Wednesday that he had replaced Sessions with Matthew Whitaker whom he appointed acting attorney general. Whitaker was Sessions' chief of staff and outwardly criticized Mueller's investigation.

Protesters' demands include having Whitaker recuse himself from overseeing Mueller's investigation, and for Congress to protect the probe with legislation.

So Democrats like Chuck Schumer have claimed that the President's firing of his Attorney General represents, or may soon represent, a constitutional crisis.

Congressional Democrats, concerned about protecting Mueller, called on Whitaker to recuse himself from overseeing the investigation in its final but potentially explosive stages. One of those offices, in NY, is leading an investigation involving the president's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, and hush money payments Cohen says he made to two women who say they had sex with Trump.

Even after he arrived at the Justice Department, Whitaker harbored frustration about the length of the special counsel probe and doubts about the scope of Mueller's authority, a person familiar with the matter said. The rally was one of many across the country in reaction to Trump's appointing Whitaker.

With Whitaker as Attorney General, protesters are anxious he serves the best interest of President Trump instead of the entire country.

North Ogden Mayor Brent Taylor killed in Afghanistan
He had served an earlier tour there as a combat adviser to the Afghan Border Police, and completed two tours in Iraq. Officials say another US service member is being treated for wounds sustained in the attack in Kabul on Saturday.

The two people close to Whitaker also said they strongly believe he would not approve any request from special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to subpoena the president.

Whitaker also worked on Sam Clovis's failed campaign for Iowa state treasurer in 2014 after both of them ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate. Mueller's team also has been pressing for an interview with Trump.

"I just don't understand it because why invite this kind of criticism or scrutiny which you knew it was going to come because of the comments he's made earlier", said Gonzales. Two things. First, the Democrats were delighted to have an Attorney General who recused himself from all matters relating to the Trump presidential campaign, including but not limited to Russian Federation, broadly construed. Jerry Nadler, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, said he wants "answers immediately" and "we will hold people accountable".

That left Whitaker in charge, at least for now, though Democrats, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen.

Never in modern history has a president attacked a Cabinet member as frequently and harshly in public as Trump did Sessions, a former United States senator from Alabama and one of the first members of Congress to back Trump's presidential campaign in 2015. The almost year and a half long investigation by the special counsel stems from allegations of Russian Federation coordinating with members of the Trump presidential campaign.

Mueller could seek to challenge his own firing if he felt Whitaker lacked the good cause required by the special counsel regulation, said Ohlin.

You reported today that that doesn't seem likely, that recusal.
