Caris LeVert suffered a serious right leg injury in the first half of Monday's game between the Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 24-year-old American, who has played all three of his National Basketball Association seasons with the Nets, was wheeled off the court in pain after a gruesome injury in Monday's 120-112 Brooklyn loss at Minnesota.

"While the optics of this injury may have appeared to be more severe, surgery will not be required", team orthopedist Dr. Martin O'Malley said in a statement. LeVert sat up and looked at his leg before lying back down and placing his hands on his forehead in apparent pain.

Replays of the gruesome injury were not shown in the arena. "But I knew at the end I would see progress, so I just tried to stick with it and keep going".

Most observers - guilty as well, for the record - were assuming after seeing the injury that LeVert was done for the season at a minimum.

"He had a fantastic start to the season", Atkinson added. He is averaging 18.4 points and is the only player in the league this season to convert multiple go-ahead baskets with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation or overtime.

"We didn't talk even when we came in at halftime", Nets forward Joe Harris said. "The amount of work that he's put in to this point, his attitude never wavered from the moment he's gotten in here".
