The Messenger app was delivering an error message when trying to send

It's not clear right now how many users are affected.

The outage comes at a particularly sensitive time for the company.

Several peopled weren't able to access and some couldn't post pictures or write on Facebook, Instagram and also share multimedia contents on WhatsApp.

Facebook acknowledged via Twitter that it was aware some users could not access its site and other apps it owns, such as Instagram. #InstagramDown is also trending on Twitter.

The products bear establishment number "P-190" inside the USDA mark of inspection and were sent to retail locations nationwide. Salmonella is prevalent and can be present in raw meat and poultry and in live poultry - no raw meat or poultry is sterile.

A rush of issues have been reported this lunchtime, as users report being unable to load the page at all.

"Earlier today, a server configuration caused intermittent problems across all apps globally creating a degraded experience for users". "We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible".

Facebook gave no reason for the problems or details.

UPDATE: Nov. 20, 2018, 3:58 p.m. ET Some users still report trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram, nine hours after the outage first began.

The independent monitoring site Downdetector showed a map indicating outages affecting most parts of the world, especially in North America, Europe and Asia.
