Nooses found outside Mississippi legislature day before Senate vote

A day before a runoff US Senate election and as Donald Trump prepared to visit the state to stage two rallies, nooses and six signs were found on the grounds of the MS capitol.

He said the matter is under investigation by the Mississippi Capitol Police, and he did not immediately know what was on the signs.

Trump was in Biloxi to stump for Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), who faces former Clinton cabinet official Mike Espy (D-Miss.) in a Tuesday runoff election.

The president said she has apologised and misspoke, adding that her comments were "taken a certain way but she certainly didn't mean it".

The nooses and signs were found outside the Capitol building after Mississippi news station WLBT received a tip Monday morning, communications director for the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration Chuck McIntosh told NBC News.
