Shooting Suspect Reportedly Captured In Kern County

"There is right now a full-scale manhunt going on in California for an illegal immigrant accused of shooting and killing a police officer during a traffic stop", Trump tweeted.

Cpl. Ronal Singh, who emigrated from his native Fiji, was shot about 1 a.m. Wednesday after stopping a suspected drunken driver in Newman, southeast of San Francisco in the San Joaquin Valley.

A press conference was held Friday Dec. 28 at the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department in regards to significant developments in the Newman investigation.

He was sent north in the slain officer's handcuffs, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood said.

The arrest was photographed by Harinder Singh Toor and were provided permission to use the photograph.

Christianson spoke at a news conference about making laws stricter as Singh's brother wept beside him. Sheriff's officials, however, say they can not confirm the suspect's name and date of birth. Within just a couple of minutes, Singh got back on the radio to report that shots had been fired and he was hit. Both men also were in the country illegally, he said.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department later reported the additional arrests of Perez Arriaga's girlfriend, 30-year-old Ana Leyde Cervantes of Newman and Perez Arriaga's brother, 34-year-old Conrado Virgen Mendoza of Chowchilla.

There is still a long way to go but we're in a good period. "We have to keep together and realise how we achieved results before". The character is always very important but these boys have that, there is no doubt about that .

Richardson said Singh was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and riding his jet ski.

Singh was the first officer with the Newman Police Department to die in the line of duty, Chief Randy Richardson said.

Arriaga was under surveillance for at least 24 hours, Christianson said, adding that hundreds of tips came in leading to the arrest.

The suspect accused of killing Singh has been identified as 32-year-old Guastavo Perez Arriaga.

The bill contains some exceptions, allowing local agencies to transfer individuals to federal immigration authorities if there is a judicial warrant or if the person has been previously convicted of a violent felony.

Stanislaus County law enforcement officials have highlighted Singh's own background as a legal immigrant. "I am suggesting that the outcome could have been different if law enforcement wasn't restricted, prohibited or had their hands tied because of political interference". Christianson also praised their partners in Kern County for apprehending Arriaga in Bakersfield.

"This suspect, unlike Ron who immigrated into this country lawfully and legally to pursue his life-long career of public safety and public service and being a police officer, this suspect is in our country illegally and he doesn't belong here, he is a criminal", said Christianson.
