Roger Federer got Switzerland's Hopman Cup campaign off to a winning start

From 4-4 in the first set, Federer won the next seven games to set up the easy win.

The mixed doubles are contested in a short-set format with tiebreaks at 3-3 but that still means two matches in a day for the four players.

Federer is flying through the Australian Open winning a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Cameron Norrie on Sunday.

Williams had a trickier start to her singles match against Belinda Bencic, losing the first set 4-6 before recovering to win 6-4, 6-3 and leveling things for the US.

The Hopman Cup, played in Perth, features one man and one woman from eight countries.

Williams grabbed at her right shoulder on several occasions late in the second set but played down any injury concern.

Federer and Bencic beat Britain's Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter in their opening round-robin tie, while the United States of America lost to Greece on Monday despite Williams winning her singles tie.

Serena Williams has sent tennis fans into a frenzy with a photo of her and daughter Olympia at the Hopman Cup. His serve is super underestimated, he has a killer serve. In his press conference at the Hopman cup, Roger Federer spoke about his experiences of playing against, and with, quality women tennis players.

"I guess what you're seeking here is confirmation to see is everything there that you thought there was, or is there any fixing still to be done in the coming weeks".

Attack on Libya's foreign ministry leaves three dead
Four months earlier, it claimed an attack on the electoral commission's headquarters which left 14 dead. Libya has been a haven for Islamic militants since the toppling of dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

As Tennis.com notes, Williams said: "You know, I've been training in the off-season to be ready for Roger".

"I admire everything she's done on and off the court, we are both fierce competitors and we always want to win", he said, according to Agence France-Presse.

Defending champion Switzerland will qualify for Saturday's final if it beats Greece on Thursday.

The pair posed together for a selfie after the match.

Serena made the best possible start, breaking at love in game two after a forehand error from Belinda and opening a 4-1 lead with commanding holds.

"It's the age of social media", Federer said with a laugh when told about Williams' plan.

"I don't know her that well", he said.

There was a memorable moment in the second set when a Tiafoe shot struck a shocked but amused Federer on the head with the match played in very fine spirits.
