There have been reports of an increase in reported influenza (flu) activity throughout North Carolina. Seven of the largest US companies reported paying out nearly half a billion dollars because of last season's flu, according to Jason McGorman, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health said 247 people have been hospitalized in the state since the flu season officially began September 1. It was the highest flu-related death toll in at least 40 years.

"At this point, most flu activity has been driven by illness in school-aged children, and hospitalization rates among children younger than 5 years old (7.7 per 100,000) are now the highest among all age groups".

Although the flu is not something most healthy Americans go around worrying about, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning that this year's flu season could be a brutal one. Flu season typically runs from October through May.

Officials say six of those cases were in brown county, one in Winnebago County, three in Outagamie County and two in the city of Appleton. "That's probably because compared to past year, we already know in both Iowa and nationally, we've had more people take the vaccine".

He was willing to meet Trump again at any time, he added, "to produce a result that will be welcomed by the global community". However, there was a clear warning that the country is not ready to disarm unilaterally.

Two weeks ago, only 9 states reported high ILI activity. The flu vaccine lowers your chances of getting the flu and can lessen the severity of symptoms if you do fall ill.

Infection with the flu virus can cause fever, headache, cough, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and body aches. These numbers are an increase from the 2017-2018 season when at the same time, there were 225 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza and 63 hospitalizations.

It's not too late to get your flu shot.

According to the CDC, in past flu seasons when the match between flu vaccine and circulating strains of flu virus is close, a flu shot is between 60 to 70 percent effective. The CDC recommends widespread vaccination as a cost-effective guard against pandemics.

"The emergency department is not a great place to get care for flu, because you could be exposed to a lot of other things", he said.
