Technical details surrounding the electric SUV are slim - General Motors says its new hardware is capable of being configured with front, rear or all-wheel-drive layouts. "Overall, Cadillac will introduce new models at the rate of roughly one every six months through 2021", the company said.

GM previously announced that Cadillac would be its lead brand for electric vehicle, and now we are getting images in the form of teasers for the automakers first planned electric vehicle.

"It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility", explains Cadillac president Steve Carlisle.

General Motors positions Cadillac as a pioneer of a new era of all-electric vehicle development. In addition, the United States manufacturer will build a "disproportionate share" of the 20 new electric models that General Motors intends to bring to market worldwide by 2023. "The battery system will also be adjustable, based on vehicle and customer requirements".

The key will be GM's modular EV platform, which the automaker refers to as BEV3.

If the upcoming Cadillac EV is to be a crossover, it could lock horns with the likes of Jaguar I-Pace, Tesla Model X and the Infiniti QX Inspiration (Subject to production), among others. Whether the next electric Cadillac will be an SUV or a sedan is not yet known. Carlisle said the mid-sized luxury sport utility vehicle will sell for prices on par with similar gasoline-powered models, which usually start around $50,000 and get more pricey with add-ons.
