In a brief video from her campaign that was released on social media Monday morning at the same time she appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America," Harris called on her supporters to join with her to "claim our future".

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of MA, a longtime avatar for the more progressive, pro-labor wing of the Democratic party, has formed an exploratory committee for a 2020 run. "That's why I'm running for president of the United States", the senator said in a video posted on Twitter.

Harris is the first African American senator from California and joins a field vying to become the first woman elected to the White House.

She will also be holding a kickoff rally in her hometown of Oakland California on January 27.

It wasn't long before she chose to disrupt the political landscape again by launching a bid for president in 1972. "They're the values we as Americans cherish and they're all on the line now".

Despite waiting until Monday to make her official announcement, Harris is no stranger to the early states where she will soon campaign. "The thing about Dr King that always inspires me is that he was aspirational. like our country is aspirational", Harris said on GMA. "I'm running to lift those voices, to bring our voices together". Harris has responded to the criticism from progressives by saying the left needs to get over its bias against law enforcement.

In 2014, as the AG for California, Harris issued recommendations to small and mid-sized businesses in the state to help protect against and respond to malware, data breaches, and other cyber crimes.

"It is not taken lightly by many that almost 50 years after Shirley Chisholm, the first woman & African-American to seek the nomination for president of the United States from one of the two major political parties (1972)", tweeted CNN analyst Symone D. Sanders. "Having said that, being best on paper is often not worth the cost of the paper".

It's certainly true that the current state of both hip-hop and pop is one of collaboration and sampling. Also, the song has been on repeat since it was released. "Cause that sound really familiar to me".

Harris, the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India, would be both the first black woman and first Indian-American elected to office.

Beyond South Carolina, Harris allies hope she could pull off a strong finish in Nevada, her neighboring state, and then her home state of California, which has moved its primary up to March 3.

Moreover, Harris has also been outspoken on the nomination of former Attorney General William Barr. Monday is Martin Luther King Day, and the press conference was held at her alma mater, historically black Howard University.

During an emotional exchange between Harris and Professor Christine Blasey Ford, Harris said she believed Ford and praised her courage for coming forward.

Her tenure as attorney general was marked by efforts to protect consumers and fight sexual trafficking.

Harris could also have a geographical advantage, as California is moving its primary up to March 3, 2020.

Other members of her campaign team include prominent Democratic lawyer Marc Elias as general counsel, Angelique Cannon as national finance director; David Huynh as senior adviser; and Lily Adams as communications director. Harris has won three statewide elections in California, giving her a potential leg up over opponents planning to compete in the vast and expensive state.

Rubin added that Harris's "greatest strength, which if she is as smart as she seems should be at the center of her campaign, might be her ability to talk about politics in terms of values - empathy, fairness, personal responsibility".
