A winter storm brought more than 5 inches of snow to northern IL as the region braced itself for record-low subzero temperatures. "The heaviest snow is expected in our MI counties where 6-9" of snow is possible.

Later on Wednesday a cold front will push through with a few more snow showers/squalls and behind it, the Vortex. Then the "coldest air mass in years" will hit the region on Tuesday with extreme cold lasting through Friday, the weather service said. Thursday looks to be sunny, but cold with highs only in the upper 20s for most.

"Dangerously cold and potentially record-breaking temperatures and wind chills are expected by Tuesday and Wednesday", National Weather Service (NWS) said. By Tuesday night, temperatures are expected to take another plunge, to 23 below zero, flirting with Chicago's coldest temperature ever: "minus 27 on January 20, 1985", writes the Chicago Tribune. It'll be the coldest air in central in in more than two decades with wind chills ranging from minus 20 to minus 40. Thursday and Friday will be brutally cold with lows in the single digits and wind chills around -15 degrees. "When it's actually brought down to this level, that's when you know it's something serious", Hurley said in a telephone interview. Here in Jacksonville we could see a light freeze by midweek but the Midwest will see temperatures plummet more than 30 degrees below freezing. "That's 40 degrees below normal", Hurley said.

Potential record-low temperatures Thursday morning.

PUBG is releasing a free-to-play version of the game
At the time of writing PUBG Mobile Lite hasn't made it to India, but let's hope that PUBG Lite does make it to the country sooner. The current paid version of PUBG was released in early 2017 by the subsidiary of a South Korean company called Bluehole.

The cold blast, caused by lobe of the stratospheric polar vortex that is positioned over the Great Lakes, far south of its usual position, may result in a large number of all-time low maximum records (daily highs) falling, according to Dr. Jeff Masters of Weather Underground.

In Wisconsin, plow drivers were having a hard time keeping up with the snow in Sheboygan. However, it will be enough to create risky roads and icy or snow-covered conditions. The stadium said tours, the Lambeau Field Atrium and all its businesses, including the Packers Hall of Fame, were closed to visitors Monday.

Eleven major airlines, including American, Delta, United and Southwest, have issued travel warnings for multiple airports throughout the U.S. affected by the polar vortex, allowing travelers to change their trips with no fee if their flight plans are affected "by severe weather or other uncontrollable events".

The cold also prompted officials to close some schools in eastern Iowa.
