He declined to disclose the names of those standing trial in Saudi Arabia for the killing, but said sessions had been attended by representatives of the five members of the UN Security Council. On Thursday, a UN-led inquiry into the murder said evidence pointed to a brutal crime that was "planned and perpetrated" by Saudi officials.

US intelligence agencies had previously concluded that the crown prince must have at least had knowledge of the plot, leading some members of Congress to call for him to step down as the de facto leader of the country.

The prince said that if Khashoggi could not be enticed to return to Saudi Arabia, then he should be brought back by force. His remains have still not been found.

But how the fight will proceed and when USA troops will leave Syria are unclear. He said he wanted to wait for the official word before making any announcement.

Brussels has repeatedly insisted on a transparent and thorough investigation into Khashoggi's murder and called on Saudi officials to cooperate in the ongoing probe.

"Two days ago in Washington, D.C. we also evaluated this issue with foreign ministers from other countries", Cavusoglu said.

Khashoggi, an insider-turned-critic of the Saudi ruling regime, was killed and dismembered by people close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the kingdom's Istanbul consulate after entering to pick up documents for his wedding. Callamard is scheduled to deliver the final report to the United Nations human rights council in June.

"The US Government will continue to consult with Congress and work to hold accountable those responsible for Jamal Khashoggi's killing".

Despite widespread demands for an global investigation and to hold the Saudi government accountable, Donald Trump has largely stood by his ally, the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Khashoggi's Turkish fiancee told reporters earlier Friday that she was hopeful that his killers will be punished and appealed to legislators in the European Union and the U.S. Congress to closely follow the case.
