A woman went to an abandoned house to smoke marijuana. The tipster said he, along with few others, thought they were hallucinating when they first saw the animal.

Officials told the local television station KHOU-TV the tiger was well fed, but its cage was secured by a nylon strap and screwdriver.

The woman called 311, the city's non-emergency hotline.

Luckily, BARC was able to find a home for the tiger with a "facility that is licensed to handle exotic pets".

USA Today is reporting that the tiger was moved from the home to BARC headquarters, where it is under constant surveillance while being kept in a horse trailer.

The incident was under investigation and it was unclear what charges the owner of the house could face.

But several packages of meat were found with the animal, KTRK reported.

UPDATE: Police said a man was smoking pot when he found a caged female tiger in an abandoned house.

It's not clear what subspecies of tiger the animal was, though the IUCN Red List classifies all tigers as endangered, with less than 4,000 and possibly as little as around 2,150 estimated to remain in the wild. It's unsafe for them to have (a tiger down the street).
