Trump administration issues rule that could cost Planned Parenthood tens of millions

Chicago. Under the new rule posted Friday by the federal Department of Health and Human Services Office of Population Affairs any organization that provides or refers patients for abortion

Friday, after the announcement, the group said the new "gag order" would affect about 14,000 Iowans who use Title X funds to receive care at clinics in Ames, Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Iowa City and Urbandale.

"Planned Parenthood will fight the Trump-Pence administration through every avenue so this illegal, unethical rule never goes into effect", she told reporters in a call after the rule was announced, reported the Washington Examiner.

Last month, a USA judge in California blocked a Trump administration birth control coverage rules, which would allow more employers to opt out of providing women with no-cost birth control, from taking effect in 13 states and Washington, DC. Under the rule, any organization that offers abortions or refers patients seeking abortions to another provider for care can not receive Title X funds. These influences were reported to be an essential element in the lives of certain migrant women which enabled them to face life with a sense of equality.' It is important for patients seeking care to feel assured that their faith, and the principles of conscience grounded in their faith, would be honored, especially in the area of family planning.

The rule intends to provide a clear line between abortion and family planning.

The practical impact of the new regulation, which will take effect in 60 days, is to bar the clinics from referring women to doctors for the goal of terminating their pregnancies.

March for Life President Jeanne Mancini said in a statement that "abortion is neither healthcare nor family planning - which is why the Title X program has no business funding it".

"The administration's action will do irreparable harm to the public's health and damage the network of highly qualified family planning providers across the country", Clare Coleman, president of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association said in a statement.

SARAH MCCAMMON, BYLINE: So it's a close to $300 million federal program, and it provides grants to health clinics, nonprofit groups and organizations like Planned Parenthood to cover reproductive health care for about 4 million low-income people.

The rule advances President Trump's promise to stop taxpayer funding of abortion businesses and comes as no surprise after Trump's February 5 remarks at the State of the Union Address: "Let us reaffirm a fundamental truth - all children, born and unborn, are made in the holy image of God". Planned Parenthood now gets about $60 million a year nationwide in Title X federal funding. However, you should not be doing it being subsidized by taxpayer funds. "The patient-physician relationship relies on trust, open conversation and informed decision making and the government should not be telling physicians what they can and cannot say to their patients". The rule will be challenged in court. Last August, HHS announced that the network would largely remain status quo, with 12 additions including Planned Parenthood affiliates. They've called it a gag rule and say it would prevent doctors from speaking freely with their Title X-funded patients.

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, however, applauded the administration, saying in a statement Friday night, "Since President Trump took office, we have made great strides toward defending the sanctity of life".

The administration said it will also bar the family planning centers from referring women to other clinics to get abortions. The organization covers roughly 40 percent of persons accessing Title X to receive medical services, according to The Washington Examiner.

The department said there could be "minor editorial changes" to the regulations while a department official confirmed to the Associated Press it was the final version. Then it would take effect in 60 days.
