Amazon friction rises in Virginia as Cuomo woos Bezos to return

Governor Cuomo is 'STILL pleading with Jeff Bezos and Amazon to move to New York'

Amazon's abrupt decision to pull its HQ2 from New York City still has some people angry.

The New York Times has also reported Gov. Cuomo has been personally calling Amazon executives, including Bezos, to convince Amazon to reconsider.

Mr. Cuomo said Thursday: 'I've had many conversations with Amazon.

The report about Cuomo's last-ditch phone calls to Bezos - as well as the open letter signed by elected officials, union bosses, and business and community groups U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, whose district includes Long Island City, and the Partnership for New York City, a pro-business organization - first ran in The New York Times late this week. Signatories include the CEOs from JetBlue, Hearst, MasterCard and Deloitte.

NY isn't giving up on Amazon.

Among those leading the charge against the mammoth internet giant was freshman Congresswoman (NY-D) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, known to the media as AOC. But when we commit to a project as important as this, we figure out how to get it done in a way that works for everyone.

The letter goes on to say that "Governor Cuomo will take personal responsibility for the project's state approval" while "Mayor de Blasio will work together with the governor to manage the community development process, including the workforce development, public education and infrastructure investments that are necessary".

The Golden State Warriors look pretty on offense in most games, but the Charlotte Hornets didn't do much to impede them Monday. The Warriors took a 1 ½-game lead over the Denver Nuggets in the race for the best record in the Western Conference.

The New York plan had been endorsed by Mayor Bill De Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo. While Cuomo did not offer a new location for the HQ2 plan, he did guarantee the executives that there would be support for the plan, according to one of the Times sources. Opinions are strong in NY - sometimes strident.

Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Many New Yorkers cited concerns over how HQ2 would affect the already stressed housing system, and wondered why the incentives from state and city government were not going into the MTA.

The letter was signed by dozens of NY business and civic figures, including religious, education, union, political, and tech leaders. "He's trying very hard to get Amazon back and this effort originates with the governor who has been very clear about what a disaster he thinks Amazon's decision to leave NY, how awful the actions of Senate Democrats who led to Amazon to do that were and he's determined to get them back".

Amazon also said it will continue with a planned new "Center of Excellence" in Nashville, and continue to hire and grow across its 17 corporate offices and tech hubs in the US and Canada.

"I have always been clear that I support job creation and was disappointed with Amazon's decision and hoped they would reconsider", Stewart-Cousins said in a statement.

Cuomo's plea: In his appeals to Amazon, Cuomo brought up polls that showed a majority of New Yorkers supported the deal, despite the "vocal minority" that snatched up headlines.

Cuomo singled out fellow Democrats who control the state Senate for blame after Amazon pulled out of the deal February 14.
