Sergio Ramos Hit With Two-Game European Suspension

Ramos fouled Kasper Dolberg in the 89th minute with Real 2-1 up, meaning he is suspended for the last-16 second leg.

Sergio Ramos, who's already having a tough week, got even more bad news as UEFA handed down a two-match ban to the Real Madrid defended after comments he made after the match against Ajax.

"Ramos will be suspended for two games for clearly receiving a yellow card on goal", commented UEFA in their statement confirming the ban.

The Spain worldwide then suggested in an interview after the match that he had been booked intentionally so as to avoid the risk of a suspension in the quarter-finals, although he later backtracked on those comments.

UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body found the defender guilty of receiving a booking on objective during the closing stages of the match in Amsterdam on February 13.

A investigation was launched into the match and an additional one-match ban was added to his suspension.

As a result of the booking, the 32-year-old was suspended from next Tuesday's second leg.

"Not to underestimate the opponent, but sometimes you have to take these decisions and that's what I decided", he said in a post-match interview with El Chiringuito TV.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't force (the booking)", admitted the defender.

UEFA has issued a two-match suspension to Sergio Ramos after finding him guilty of getting booked deliberately against Ajax.

His punishment has now been made official by UEFA's Disciplinary Committee after proceedings were opened earlier this week.
