"I've been receiving treatment, but it hasn't improved enough to play", Woods said in a post on Twitter.

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando due to a neck strain.

"Arnold Palmer was golf's greatest ambassador with his go-for-broke style of play, his charitable endeavours and his true passion and respect for the game and its fans", PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement on Monday. Woods said he has been dealing with the strain for a few weeks.

Woods added that he would send his regrets for missing one of his favorite tournaments, at Bay Hill Club & Lodge, to Palmer's family.

Since his long awaited return to PGA competition back in December 2017 following a spinal fusion surgery in April of that year, Tiger, had not withdrew from any tournament golf he was scheduled to play.

Tiger reiterated that he hoped he would be ready for the Players.

The 14-time major victor finished tied for 10th at the 2019 World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship on February 24 in Mexico City.

The injury is the first setback for Woods since he returned to regularly competing on the PGA Tour in January 2018, which marked the start of a remarkable comeback campaign he capped with a win in the Tour Championship season finale.

Day, 31, a 12-time PGA Tour victor who won the Arnold Palmer tournament at Bay Hill in 2016, had not played since tying for fourth at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am last month and told the PGA Tour that his back had been bothering him over the past week. Until then, Woods had not won a tournament since the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in 2013.
