"How it started was, the young man and the wife in the stands told me to get down on my knees 'like you're used to.'" Westbrook explained to reporters. "Promise you on everything I love, I promise you", Westbrook says to a fan on the video. I swear to God, I swear to God, I'll f*** you up. I'll f-- you up.

He later defended his actions, saying he had been subjected to "disrespectful" and "racial" language.

"But once he said the comment, and his wife repeated the same thing, as well, that's kind of how that started", Westbrook said.

The NBA league office has chose to punish Westbrook as well, handing down a $25,000 fine for his part in the incident.

The NBA fined Westbrook $25,000 for "directing profanity and threatening language to a fan", but the message from across the league was clear: Westbrook is deserving of support, and basketball's most prominent voice said as much on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Utah Jazz announced that Keisel has been banned permanently from future Jazz games. He said he is done tolerating their disrespect. I've never seen a fan get interviewed like that before.

Keisel told KSL TV that nobody around him had directed racist remarks at Westbrook and that he's been advised to shut down his social media accounts. "And then there are people that come to the game to say disrespectful things about me, my family".

The Jazz are conducting an investigation into the matter, which Westbrook says flared up after he was told to "get down on my knees like I used to".

"There's got to be something done, there's got to be some consequences for those type of people that come to the game just to say and do whatever they want to say". These included screenshots dating back to past year, one in which Keisel allegedly wrote, "Russell Westbrook needs to go back where he came from!"

During the Jazz's 98-89 Monday night loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook and a fan got into a vocal altercation. "It turned to, I mean, the guy is f-king everything". There could've been some words Russ could've said a little differently, but at the end of the day, he was in the right, that guy was in the wrong. I'm exhausted of just going out and playing and letting fans say what the hell they want to say. It was amusing that he tried to backtrack and say what he didn't do when they interviewed him.

Deadspin notes that Westbrook has a bit of history with heckling Jazz fans, citing "a couple instances similar to this one between Westbrook and some random Utahns" during the playoffs last season.
