In remarks to a conservative Jewish group, Trump thanked several Republican lawmakers for their support before proceeding to mock Omar, an outspoken critic of US policy toward Israel who has also made comments that some say invoke anti-Semitic stereotypes.

Jewish voters in the USA have traditionally sided heavily with Democrats - and are often ideologically liberal - but Republicans are hoping to narrow the gap next year, in part as Trump cites actions that he says demonstrate support for Israel. Sarcastically pretending to thank Omar for her support of Israel, he said: "Oh, I forgot. No, she doesn't like Israel, does she?" the President told crowds to applause, referencing comments she made about the U.S. pro-Israel lobby for which she apologised "unequivocally".

She accused Jewish Americans of having a "dual loyalty" to both the US and Israel and said that support for the Jewish state was "all about the benjamins".

Netanyahu featured Trump in a recent campaign video, while Trump has made a series of policy moves viewed as strengthening Netanyahu in the eyes of Israeli voters, including relocating the US Embassy to Jerusalem, withdrawing from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and officially recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

Trump's mockery of Omar came one day after a NY man was arrested and charged with threatening to murder the representative. "You want to control your politicians, that's fine", Trump said at the time.

In the video of the event, Trump clearly makes reference to Netanyahu as "your prime minister" toward Jewish Republicans. - Trump responded, "I think it's going to be close".

"They (asylum seekers) read a little page given by lawyers that are all over the place - you know lawyers, they tell them what to say".

"It's what the people voted for in 2016 and when they get out, whether it's now, April 12 or later, we'll be standing right there waiting for them".

Former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN), who was once a harsh critic of Trump, told the audience of about 2,000 that he had been wrong.

"Regardless of the victor, the utter erasure of Palestinian humanity from this election cycle and the normalization of an undemocratic and immoral military occupation should alarm any Jew who cares about freedom and dignity of Israelis and Palestinians", Mayer said in an email. He said he then made the decision quickly.

Stuart Weil, a Jewish man from Fresno, Calif., said Americans have traditionally been very supportive of Israel but "the progressive, liberal wing of the Democratic Party" is changing that.

On March 25, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Trump who signed a proclamation which officially acknowledged that the USA recognized Israel sovereignty over Golan Heights, which Israel seized from Syria in the 1960s, according to The Daily Mail.
