Dustin Johnson (70) and Justin Harding (69) were a shot behind at 6-under, alongside four-time Masters victor Woods, who is sitting ominously just behind the leaders as he hunts a first major since the 2008 US Open. He played the first eight holes at even par before kicking it into another gear, starting with a 37-foot birdie putt on No. 9.

The 43-year-old Woods hasn't won the green jacket since 2005, and he's been seeking his 15th major title since winning the 2008 US Open.

"Three [majors] in a row, I've been right in the mix", Woods added, building on his second place at last year's PGA Championships. Day also shot a 67.

It's the first time three players have shot 64 or better in a single round of the Masters. The tournament record is 63.

Yet Woods provided the day's biggest talking point, as he surged into contention having survived a dramatic scare on the 14th hole when a security guard - running in a bid to control spectators - slipped and nearly knocked golf's biggest star off his feet. Woods then stuck his tee shot on the par-3 12th before horns sounded to halt play due to inclement weather.

"It is what it is", Woods said.

"Accidents happen, we move on", Woods said of the incident, confirming he suffered no major damage from the guard's boot.

Mandavi was the lone Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Bastar region which accounts for 12 Assembly seats. Dantewada has a clear and present danger from Naxals and has seen attacks in the past as well.

Looming just as large was Woods, who atoned for missing two birdie chances inside 8 feet on the back nine with consecutive birdie putts from 30 feet that sent him to a 4-under 68 and left him one shot behind.

"It's a bunched leader board ... if someone decides to break away on the weekend I'm in a good spot to run with them".

It worked wonders as he appeared to be in considerably less pain while putting together a round that was almost flawless, although Day said his wife Ellie deserved just as much credit for his remarkable recovery.

He was later joined by four-time champion Woods, who looked a little out of sorts early in his round and followed four pars with a dropped shot at the fifth to raise fears that he would head in the wrong direction on moving day.

Koepka fired a 71 despite a double-bogey disaster at the par-5 second hole, birdies at 15 and 18 salvaging a sub-par round.

U.S. left-hander Phil Mickelson, who at 48 would become the oldest major champion in golf history with a win, shot 73 in his 100th career Masters round to stand three off the lead.
