Nikita Kucherov suspended 1 game for boarding Markus Nutivaara

The NHL department of player safety has announced that Tampa Bay forward Nikita Kucherov has been suspended one playoff game for boarding Columbus defender Markus Nutivaara.

Blue Jackets: 9-1-0, averaging 3.7 goals, 5.3 assists, 1.4 penalties and 3.1 penalty minutes while giving up 2.1 goals per game with a.923 save percentage.

Game 3 is Sunday in Columbus.

Late in the third period with Tampa trailing, Kucherov trips Nutivaara behind the Columbus net. In 52 regular season games, the former New York Ranger tallied 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) for the Bolts. They are the only National Hockey League team that hasn't won a playoff series. I've got to believe they come out flying here and while the suddenly surging Blue Jackets are going to have a frenzied home crowd for support, I think TB has a great chance to get back in the series.

A win on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; CNBC) would not only mean a shocking sweep of the Presidents' Trophy winning Lightning, but also give the Blue Jackets their first ever Stanley Cup playoff series victory. The Blue Jackets last won a home playoff game on April 18, 2017.
