His film credits after Boyz N the Hood included Poetic Justice (1993), starring Janet Jackson, Tupac Shakur and Regina King, the latter of which like Cuba Gooding Jr and Ice Cube became big because of Boyz N the Hood.

Director John Singleton is on life support after suffering a stroke earlier this month, his spokesperson Shannon Barr told USA TODAY Monday. The groundbreaking film would go on to make him the youngest person and the first African American ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director.
