Adam Gase wastes no time, trades linebacker Darron Lee to Chiefs

Eagles’ Joe Douglas is a candidate to replace Mike Maccagnan as Jets GM

Eagles’ Joe Douglas is a candidate to replace Mike Maccagnan as Jets GM

If you're a NY sports fan who puts your support behind the Knicks and Jets, well, you've had better days.

The timing is unusual considering Maccagnan oversaw the Jets' draft less than three weeks ago, although there were rumors that he and Gase had some tension - which both denied. For what it's worth, Gase later downplayed the reports.

Hours after Mike Maccagnan was sacked, interim general manager Adam Gase agreed to terms on a deal to send Lee to the Chiefs for a 2020 sixth-round pick, according to a source.

Vice president of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger was also relieved of his duties, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington.

Gase, who was hired in January on the heels of a failed three-year stint as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, will serve as the franchise's leading voice until a new general manager is brought in. Now, under head coach/interim GM Adam Gase, the Jets have finally moved on from Lee. "We have discussions on everything". According to ESPN, Maccagnan also had a significant role in initially hiring Gase, which only makes the move more shocking. He also acquired left guard Kelechi Osemele from Oakland in a trade.

The 28-year-old also admitted he had wanted his future resolved earlier to avoid it being the season-long saga it has become.

Maccagnan, who was responsible for Bowles' hiring, was brought to NY from the Texans after spending 15 seasons in Houston.

The New York Jets are shaking things up in the front office and it'll likely have an impact on things in Philadelphia.

Lee, 24, was a first-round pick of the Jets in 2016, when the team selected the 6-foot-1, 232-pounder 20th overall out of Ohio State.

Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas is believed to be a primary candidate to replace Maccagnan.

Both Douglas and Gase worked together in Chicago during the 2015 season.
